Time Out

I know this post was supposed to be a run down of my camping trip, but instead it's me saying goodbye for a little while I'm afraid.
Things have gotten a little crazy over at my neck of the woods and I need to simplify my life a little. It won't be for long, I'll definitely be back. I love this blog to much to do a permanent runner. I'll still be reading my blogs though, I can't go completely cold turkey.

See you soon guys. Enjoy the sunshine!

Unorganised

ARGH! We're off camping today and I had a plan of making some bunting and writing a post about it today. Then life got in the way and well, let's just say that there is no bunting to take pictures of.

In fact I have to hold up my hand and confess that I have nothing note worthy to share with you all today. So instead I shall offer you my best puppy dog face and apologise. Things will be back to normal next week, but right now I need to stop drinking coffee and get our stuff together! Dan and I have a reputation for forgetting our tent or something from the tent which has seen us having to buy a new one at the eleventh hour. I have sworn that we will NOT be doing that again so I have a list and I need to start checking it.

Have a lovely weekend folks and I promise I will be back with some photos of the camping trip next week.

My current smiles

Today I thought I'd share some of the things that are making me happy right now. I really enjoy putting together these posts, they make me feel all buzzy and grateful for the things that I have.

Reaping the rewards of my hard work..the good courgettes! However, there is also a pile of bad courgettes though. Not so great.

Now guess which one is mine and which one is a Sainsbury's courgette.

My two current favourite nail varnishes in the whole wide world..mix 'em up and you get..

..a little mini universe at the tip of each finger!

My new best friend. I am ripping up all my old clothes and working out how they work and then trying to put them back together again. So much fun!

My garden. This is my favourite place to be after work. Except when it's cold or wet. Then it's not so great.

What I did yesterday

We went to visit Dan's family this weekend to celebrate his sister-in-law's 40th birthday so I thought I would point my camera phone at everything and take you all on a journey with me. A journey that involves cupcakes, pie and mash, some alcohol, silly dancing and a lot of tarmac. Here we go..

Driving out of Bath, s'cuse the mucky windows.

Couldn't resist.

And then on to the motorway..

And another motorway..

And yet more motorway. Yes, I was bored by this point.

And then for a late lunch!

Dan posted a picture of his pie and mash on Facebook. The reaction of his friends from Bath went along the lines of "what the hell is that??"

The photo above is mine, this one is Dan's, (I'm not that greedy). For those who haven't seen it before, the green sauce is called liquor and is basically a type of parsley sauce. I had my doubts the first time I saw it, being a traditional pie and gravy girl, but it's actually quite lush.

After being fed, watered and rested, we then got ready for the party.

The cupcakes Dan's niece's made. VERY nice. I won't post the photo of the cupcake his brother made though. It's not that kind of blog.

Yoink and yum.

Dan's aunt and uncle enjoying a little smoochy dance when they thought no one was looking. A ha!

That's where the photo's stopped, so the next one is from earlier this morning. Dan found this old Chelsea football club mug in the back of his mum's kitchen cupboards. It's now sat in our kitchen cupboard. Apparently he's bored of drinking out of my girly cups.

Back on the motorway, homeward bound.

And then finally home to sit in the sun with cats and chickens.

Up, up and away!

A few weeks ago I wrote this post about how things had changed with regards to my plans for The Small Things. I had originally planned to relaunch the shop with a new collection of my usual wares, bags, accessories etc. However my mind continued to wander until eventually I had to admit that I was being pulled in all sorts of different directions creatively, but not actually getting anything productive done. So I took some time out to think more about it and that's where I left it in my last post.

I was a little afraid to post my ideas here to begin with which is why I held out. I knew a lot of them were too ambitious, (quitting my job to open a small boutique) or just plain fanciful, (over night world domination using nothing more than sparkly nail varnish and a smile). However there was one idea in particular that kept popping up again and again. I found myself thinking about it at work, in the car, while I was making dinner and well, if you're thinking about something that much then it's got to be important to you. I really liked the idea of designing my own clothing line, but if I'm being honest, all my sewing skills are self taught. I'm something of a short arse (there's only 5ft of me) so I've been altering and playing around with my own clothes for years, but even so. It still takes me a long time to do certain tasks because I don't know how to do them properly. Which is fine if you're the only one wearing the clothes, not so great if you want to sell them.
So after a bit of too'ing and fro'ing I took up a dressmaking course and although it's still very early days, I've already learned a lot. Any hesitations I had over the time and money have gone. If anything I just wish I'd done this a long time ago.

The next stage of the plan after this is a little hazy, not because I haven't thought about it, (I find it hard to focus on anything else at the moment) but because I'm trying to factor in the habit ideas have of evolving. I know I'd like to create a line of clothing and I know I'd like it to be as ethical and 'green' as possible without sacrificing the fashion element too much. It's how best to achieve this that I'm currently working on - in between practising my zips and button holes of course.

So that's my little update. It's a small step forward, but an important one and I feel as though I'm now headed in the right direction which makes me no end of happy.
